The Davis-Bacon Act, is a federal law that requires contractors, or subcontractors, to pay prevailing wages to workers on any public works projects and/or contracts that are federally assisted. This includes construction, alterations, or repair of public buildings or public works. This act ensures that the earnings workers receive is equal to the pay of similar government contracted jobs. This prevents wage discrimination amongst all government contracted workers. It is the responsibility of the Secretary of Labor to determine the local prevailing wage rates.
Under the Davis Beacon Act, all government paid contractors must maintain payroll records, basic contractor records, and submit certified weekly payrolls for all labors during the course the work.
